This week on the Fashion Plug we’re plugging you into to an untapped street wear brand from Rhode Island called Alchemyst Apparel. Originally introduced to the brand by a good friend of mine I fell quickly for their look and aesthetic. Sometimes less is more and in this case it’s a whole lot. Check them out and tell ‘em who plugged you in! #ThisisThePlug
My name is Ariana Romeo (Rome). I grew up on Federal Hill in Providence RI and been there my entire life. I attended Classical High School and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the University of Rhode Island. I guess you could say I’m a true Rhode Islander, a forever local.
My journey thus far has been a crazy ride. From High points to some low points but in my eyes the journey has just begun. The evolution of Alchemyst started back 2010 while still in college and it has been revolutionized quite a few times into what we have today. In 2017 we launched Alchemyst Apparel and it has been a blessing ever since.
After some name changes, logo renditions, and some life changing experiences, Alchemyst was chosen. I was reading The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho at the time and the message of ones journey to self, spoke me and Alchemyst came into existence.
Alchemyst (alchemist) comes from the word alchemy which is normally associated with ancient chemistry but in our case, we are talking spiritual alchemy. It is the process of finding yourself, enlightening others and going with the flow of the universe that drives me to keep going.
I have always been into fashion, especially street brands and sneakers. Back in college I took printmaking/ screen printing and graphic design classes where I learned the process and skills to be able to produce my own stuff and everything at that point came full circle for me.
I would’ve definitely coached myself in having patience. Everything is a process with steps that need to be taken and it may not always go as planned with your mental time frame so patience is the key.
Social media may have one of the biggest roles in fashion besides the actual designs. Especially for following the latest trends as well as being able to get your own designs out there, broadening your audience as well as furthering your own following.
My favorite part of being a designer has to be the art of it all. The whole thought process behind creating something brand new and seeing what you come up with.
I want people to feel empowered when wearing Alchemyst. To feel the balance of knowing themselves on a deeper level beyond the ego with the ego of still looking fly.
I stay up to date with current fashion trends mostly through social media. I follow a lot of Street brands, high fashion, and sneaker accounts.
My personal style is a mix up of 90’s street wear and 1950’s street class. The destroyed, grunge, comfortable vibe of the 90’s and the classic, clean cut rebel look.
My staple item would probably be my exclusive event shirts. They are designed for each event with chemical breakdowns of event related chemicals.
Shepard Fairey of Obey Propaganda. He is not only a designer but also a street artist and a RISD alumni.
The next collection is completely revamped. Some updated media and a logo upgrade. As well as expanding into other realms such as ladies and accessories.
